Midwives and what they do during a pregnancy

Hiring a midwife can be one option in delivering your baby. Usually this method is done at home.  Plus this method is usually performed naturally.Natural in the sense that no drugs is used during the delivery of the baby.A lot of mothers are now choosing it because they can get a lot of benefits from it.Some benefits they can get are that no drugs are administered during the delivery and that the delivery is done in their homes. So we  shall look at the role of a midwife in delivery.

So let us first define what a midwife really is.  A midwife is a person who assists women during delivery.  Usually not a doctor.  But as a San Diego licensed midwife there is many other things that I know a midwife does.  Of course, they are not doctors but they do have many roles that help.

Of course, most of their duty is to advice and assist during the delivery. But they also assist the mothers during their 9 months of pregnancy. Plus they also advice and help post delivery.  So most women who are homebirth midwife San Diego have a huge job when it comes to pregnancy and delivery.  Many women rely on them heavily for care and advice.Although they are not as medically qualified like nurses or doctors, most pregnant women still trust their advice.

But the biggest help of midwives is during the delivery itself. This is more true when the delivery is done in the home of the pregnant mother.  Of course midwives help in hospitals. But when it comes to home birthing their responsibility grows larger. As I mentioned earlier as a San Diego midwife although not usually a doctor or nurse they do have training medically. This training helps them for any emergencies.

So those are some of the roles of a midwife.  As you can see they have a lot of responsibility. But most midwives have done their jobs well. They have been helping a lot of pregnant mothers since time immemorial. And they will help more as the practice become more popular in the years to come.

People and their misconceptions about midwives

Midwifery is a health care profession that helps expectant mothers. They are there when the mothers are giving birth and they also provide prenatal care. And they also provide postpartum care.In general midwives are not registered nurses but if they choose to become one then they can be and can do so. But they are regulated and governed.  But where do the misunderstandings come in?

The misconception comes from the practice of giving birth at home.  In my practice of helping women as a midwife in San Diego, homebirths are where people get confused.People think that home birthing is an unsafe way of delivering a baby. But if the pregnancy is a low-risk one then this method is very safe. Also, midwives have some necessary medical equipments at hand in case something serious happens. And since the way they deliver babies is very safe most complications are avoided.

This is where the benefits come.  As some homebirth midwife San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery. This is the kind of delivery where medicine is not needed or rather, no medicine is administered to help in labor. No medicine is used to ease the pain of birthing.  But by not using medication this actually helps the delivery happen faster.  Because most women don’t realize medication actually slows down delivery. So by not using medicines during labor the delivery will done faster than the normal delivery.

Plus as some women perform waterbirth deliveries this adds another benefit. From doing water birth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery.  The water actually soothes the muscles and allows easer delivery. Plus the shock and stress that the baby undergoes during birthing can be reduced by being released into water.

As you can see there are misunderstanding with midwives.  But hopefully you can see that for low risk pregnancies it is safe. And midwives also have rules and regulations given by a governing body. And that is the reason why midwives also need to undergo extensive schooling about their chosen profession.  They understand medical procedures that may be needed.  So safety should not be of concern since they also have medical emergency equipment. This can be a viable choice for women with low-riskpregnancies.

Reasons for having a waterbirth

The birthing of a baby is one of the most cherished moments of a woman’s life.  The experience of delivering a new life is like no other.Although it has an enormous amount of pain, most women agree that it is well worth it.

As a San Diego midwife I would like to share with you a method that you might not be aware of.  It is called waterbirth.

Waterbirth has been called probably of all the methods of delivery the gentlest. It utilizes and requires the use of a bath or pool that is heated.A few woman will just use the water for the pain of the labor part. This is done because the water that is heated is very pain relieving. It soothes and relaxes the tissues.

Other women will also delivery the baby through it.They remain in the water through the whole delivery.  Even all the way through delivering the placenta.

The whole process is usuallly performed and helped by someone called a midwife.  If you are in San Diego there are plenty of midwives San Diego.  You will want to find an experienced one.

Why do quite a few women pick this way of delivering over the hosptial method? As mentioned previously, it is very painful the labor and delivery part.A majority of women will use the drugs to try and stop the pain. But for quite a few women they do not want to introduce drugs into their body in fear of harming the baby.Using this method of waterbirth helps reduce the pain.Because of the
water heated it is soothing to the tissues and helps reduce the pain.

Most women will have this done through a natural process. They usually won’t use any drugs to dull the pain of labor.A lot of times this causes the labor to proceed much faster.Because using drugs actually can cause the labor to slow down.

It is a safe alternative of delivery. For some women who are wanting to have their baby naturally this might be a choice to go with.  I have seen many happy deliveries as a San Diego licensed midwife.  All it takes for a woman is to research and see
how safe it is.
