What really drives athletes to excel

We marvel at how athletically gifted our sports stars are. They are truly athletically gifted. But one thing we don’t realize is how important psychology plays into athletics. But it makes sense when you think about it.  Because sports isn’t about only physical ability. When we are talking about competition the mind is always involved. That would be why most of these athletes that we idolize are not just physically gifted.  But when you talk to them you realize they are mentally gifted as well.

Now what I would like to share from my experience as a sports psychologist San Diego is that you can become great in that aspect as well.  One thing you might not have control over your physical skills. But yo can control how tough you are mentally. Sometimes that allows someone who isn’t as talented physically beat out someone who is.We know it is true most of the time.  And the factor that allows the less talented to succeed is their mind.

So hiring a success coach is what most athletes do nowadays. Most success coaches are therapists.  Just like me, I run a San Diegofamily therapist business and part of that includes helping athletes.  It makes sense that a therapist who is skilled with dealing with mind problems help in this area.

It is not uncommon for an athlete that is struggling psychologically come seek my help with their depression issues.  A lot of the times that depression was caused by their failures.  So as a depression counseling it has allowed me to implement sports psychology to overcome their depression. Most of the time, all they need is that one. Because the depression was caused by failure.Make them successful and you also get rid of their depression.

So hopefully you see the secret to success isn’t always physical. No, most of the the times, the secret to success is all in the mind. And by making themselves mentally tougher athletes become more successful.

Improved performance through sports psychology

Mental aspect affecting athletes is one unique thing about sports.  We have all seen talented athletes fail miserably. The most common reason as to why they fail is because they have a weak mental toughness.  A lot of the times an inferior athlete was able to beat them due to a stronger mental attitude. This is the part where sports psychology can be used. It can teach athletes that to reach their maximum potential abilities they have to attain the right state of mind first.

In my San Diego sports psychologist practice I have seen athletes turn around their performance by applying some mental conditioning. An athlete who was once struggling with his performance was able to improve. This was the output of applying sports psychology.

There are two ways that sports psychology can help.It may help the players in the mental part of their performance on the field or court.Their concentration and realxation can also be aided by this.

So as part of my San Diego family therapist practice there are many people who come in wanting to reach that peak performance. By applying these techniques there has been a remarkable turn around in their performance.Of ocurse there are some cases which turned out to be unsuccessful. But the result has been sucessful for most of the cases.

It may seem strange but sports psychology also helps teens. It is not necessarily about sports. The circumstances provided by adolescent years and trying to be successful in sports are just similar.  So this has helped teens in my anger management San Diego services as well.

If you are seeking to improve your performance in sports maybe this is what you need.Because most of the times the athletic ability is not what brings success to a player but the toughness of his mind. You can have the most talented player in the whole world. But if they lack mental strength then their performance will not be at its best.Mental ability is the top reason why we succeed in life.

Making it in sports

One of the great aspects our society is the sports we enjoy.  From professional athletes all the way down to little kids.We get the thrill of it all.One aspect of all sports though, no matter how talented you are, it’s going to take the mental aspect as well.

What am I saying with that?  We have all seen very gifted athletes who couldn’t make it.When you examine the reason why, most of the times it was a problem in their head.  I know this for a fact helping a lot of athletes doing San Diego sports psychology. At each level there comes a point where most people are pretty good. The ones that can overcome the mental part of the game are the ones that will find success.

Most of the times the reason that holds a lot of athletes back from success is the mental aspect of the game.We witness very exreme situations in professional sports where bright stars just can’t succeed anymore.

But we are also very aware of the instances where there was an athlete who was struggling suddenly turn it around after hiring a sports psychologist.

In golf, Tiger Woods is probably the toughest golfer mentally.Yes, he is probably the best at his game.  But it is amazing to watch his competitors wilt under pressure when playing him.  Very good case in point of how mental sports are.

So for those atheltes considering going on with their career in sports, they have to begin in high school.  By starting in high school, I mean they should make sure their mental game is in tip top shape. If they need to do something, they should start by hiring a therapist.  I get hired all the time to do teen counseling in San Diego to help young athletes.

When you boil it down to who will make it big or just be a regular, it definitely is all the difference in the world. So when you are struggling in your sport, you need to take a close look at yourself. The majority of the physical struggles we experience are due to the mental struggles. Hiring someone like a family counselor in San Diego can change that.
